When birdie comes home...
Again, conures require time, patience, attention & love! You wouldn't have gotten this bird if you weren't intending to follow through with all that!

Those people who work at the pet store-they are there to help you! Before we brought the Iggster home, we asked every question imaginable! I suggest taking a notebook & pen along. Write down the things your bird CAN have & what they CANNOT have..make sure you are clear on it all! It is very wise to read up on as much as you can, to insure the health & safety of the bird, so please study! Your new friend will appreciate it!

Yes, they are like puppies...
YES! They will get into EVERYTHING! They are like puppies--they are curious & fearless at this stage. Birds love to explore! I had to block the underneath of the couch many a time so Iggy wouldn't go under there! Never leave them unattended! They could hurt themselves, by trying to fly into something..Iggy's wings are clipped for his safety. He can soar to the floor if he needs to, but he can't go up. This is to make sure he cannot fly away or get hurt. I suggest you do the same for yours. It is painless, usually done once a year. You can do it yourself too, (we take Iggy to the pet store to have it done).

If you have no carpeting, like we do, then get a bright colored towel for yous to play on. Iggy & I have "our towel" & when I show it to him, he gets excited to come out & play! We wrestle around, eat "yummies", play hide & seek (where's Iggy?, it's called --LOL!) When the towel has "had it", I simply wash it.

Clothes & Jewelry:Don't wear ANY jewelry when you are playing with your birdie. Iggy has been known to eat necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, anything shiny! So please--take it all off!!! Same with clothes that have zippers & buttons--invest in some old t-shirts, plain, with nothing on them to chew off! Once your shirts have "had it", throw them away!

And remember...it is a long journey ahead, so be patient with your new friend! Please read up as much as you can about Conures! Be sure to check my links page, for more great sites!
